The EPC Verification of Payee rulebook changes take effect this Sunday
⚠️ On 20 September 2026, three important updates become effective:
🔹 Verification of Payee Scheme Rulebook v1.1
🔹 VoP API Specifications v1.1.1
🔹 API Security Framework v2.1
Although described as clarifications and urgent changes, they include practical implementation requirements that PSPs and their VoP providers need to address.
The updated API specifications cover:
Empty API fields, which are no longer permitted
Character-set handling
Timestamp requirements
HTTP headers and content-type handling
The revised security framework also provides further clarification on the certificates used within the VoP scheme.
These may appear to be relatively small technical changes. However, in a service that depends on consistent, real-time communication between thousands of European PSPs, small differences in API interpretation can quickly become interoperability problems.
The deadline is now only days away. PSPs should confirm that their VoP solution, RVM provider and certificate configuration comply with the updated requirements—and that the changes have been tested across the complete end-to-end journey.
